Stress and trauma lurking close,
Voices in my head verbose,
Which normally would cripple me,
But not today, I’m running free.
Past emotions pushing through,
Trying to ignite the blue,
Into a flame of noxious scree,
But not today, I’m running free.
Anger brewing, vengeful thoughts,
Are nullified by quick retorts,
For months my soul would try to flee,
But not today, I’m running free.
Shoes are on, I’m out the door,
This time I will even the score,
Retribution, haunting thee,
But not today, I’m running free.
Overcast, a touch of sun,
My mind prepared to come undone,
Left foot right, chaotic spree,
But not today, I’m running free.
Interactions, toxic path,
Dishevelled in the aftermath,
My heart sets forth a broken plea,
But not today, I’m running free.
Lace up, show up, challenge won,
With courage met, thy will be done,
For now I know the strength that be,
Oh yes today, I’m running free.
