The Dreamer Child

I know you dream of distant lands,
Where someone kind with loving hands,
Will save you from the life you know,
And see your truth and inner glow.

I know you fantasise at night,
For hope to be your guiding light,
A hero to come rescue you,
From all the toxic hate they spew.

I know you pray for things to change,
Parental love without derange,
Protection from the ones who yell,
And make your life a constant hell.

I know you wait for hope to soothe,
A heart squashed into every groove,
Trying to understand this plight,
Of things that go bump in the night.

I know you hear the distant cry,
Admonished in your will to try,
To be a friend to those in need,
Escaping from their spiteful creed.

I know that you imagine scenes,
Where you escape into your dreams,
A world to love where joy is clear,
And pain no longer drives your fear.

I know you dream of distant lands,
So reach out for my loving hands,
For I can heal this life you know,
And help reveal your truth and glow.

This poem is the second in a series of prose which are conversations with my inner child parts. This is a homework assignment from J.B. my clinical psychologist. It is hoped by engaging with these individual child parts it will validate their existence and help bring me closer to understanding my own trauma and pain and thus move closer to healing from it.
