Be genuine in who you are,
I want to get to know your star,
If you cannot be true with me,
Then I will have to let you be.
Be genuine with words you tote,
I will protest if lies are wrote,
An open mind, an open hand,
Will get you to the promised land.
Be genuine with actions too,
Do not dismiss my point of view,
If fantasy is where you hide,
This may well be a solo ride.
Be genuine in who you love,
I will not use and give the shove,
I hope to have your trust in kind,
So never hide what’s on your mind.
Be genuine in all you owe,
Without mistakes you cannot grow,
So own the moments you hold true,
For they reflect the inner you.
Be genuine in times of need,
I truly want you to succeed,
So ask me if you need advice,
Together we can roll the dice.
Be genuine in who you are,
Release the sparkle from your star,
And know you can be true with me,
So trust that I can set you free.

This poem is the sixth in a series of prose about boundaries, which are essentially conversations with myself. Yet another homework assignment from my clinical psychologist, designed to help me recognise my own personal boundaries so I can form healthy relationships moving forward.
