Please listen to me when I speak,
Do not dismiss my words as weak,
I know I get confused at times,
But there is meaning in my rhymes.
So drop your phone and turn my way,
Sometimes I have a lot to say,
Be mesmerised beneath my spell,
But know I listen just as well.
Please pay attention when I talk,
Show courtesy or I may walk,
My mind can throw a wayward stone,
And I work best with kindness shown.
And should I struggle to make sense,
Don’t leave me sitting on the fence,
I may completely lose my thought,
But there will always be retort.
Please ask me questions if you need,
To understand the things I bleed,
Sometimes I vent, sometimes I cry,
Just don’t assume the reasons why.
And should I lose the will to purge,
Just sit with me until the scourge,
Of crazy angst and mixed malaise,
Has passed into another phase.
Please listen to me when I speak,
My words reveal the life I seek,
If you can dig the muse I vibe,
I welcome you into my tribe.

This poem is the fifth in a series of prose about boundaries, which are essentially conversations with myself. Yet another homework assignment from my clinical psychologist, designed to help me recognise my own personal boundaries so I can form healthy relationships moving forward.
