Connection should be balanced,
I may share, but so should you,
An even understanding of,
Emotions we hold true,
Sometimes it will be me to talk,
I hope you know this too,
To hear you is important,
If we are to see this through.

Share your deepest troubles,
So that I can be support,
Let’s laugh and cry together,
Mixing hope with kind retort,
I’ll guard your precious secrets,
If you do the same for me,
Two birds with broken wings,
But as a pair we can fly free.

Sometimes my insecurities,
Will need your glowing heart,
To smother them with kindness,
When my world’s falling apart,
But know if you are struggling,
I’ll gladly hold your hand,
And carry all your burden,
Till we reach the promised land.

Sharing should be balanced,
Sometimes you and sometimes me,
Let’s lift each other’s spirits,
As we climb the tallest tree,
And pour out our emotions,
As the earth below us moves,
Let’s light the world with sunshine,
As we fill each other’s grooves.

This poem is the seventh in a series of prose about boundaries, which are essentially conversations with myself. Yet another homework assignment from my clinical psychologist, designed to help me recognise my own personal boundaries so I can form healthy relationships moving forward.
